Physical and Visual Theatre Workshop

Subject: Chapitô Company Presents: Physical & Visual Theatre Workshops

Physical and Visual Theatre Workshop
Chapitô Company invites participants to explore the synergy between improvisation, gestures, and visual storytelling in this immersive workshop series. The program spans 9 hours across interconnected modules, though participants may enroll in individual sessions.

1.Physical Theatre Workshop: Body, Space, and Improvisation

Concept:
A movement-based exploration to (re)discover the body as the primary tool of scenic communication. Through heightened physical awareness and interaction, participants will analyze movement as a narrative force.

Structure:

  • Non-verbal communication exercises, gradually incorporating text.
  • Character development through physicality and vocal traits, emphasizing strong, distinctive profiles.

Objectives:

  • To enhance non-verbal expressiveness, active listening, and collective creativity—skills vital for both theatre and daily life.
  • To develop spatial and interpersonal body awareness.
  • To master improvisation techniques and physical character-building.
  • To strengthen non-verbal communication and teamwork.

Target Audience:
Open to all experience levels. Ideal for those seeking to boost confidence, stage presence, and communication skills.

      2. Visual Theatre Workshop: Characters and Gestural Archetypes

Concept:
Focuses on body-space relationships and creating characters through universal physical archetypes (rather than psychological approaches).

Structure:

  • Explores how bodies interact in imagined environments, conveying atmosphere, temperature, or architecture without words.
  • Develops visual narratives that transcend language barriers.

Objectives:

  • Methods for crafting striking characters through gestures.
  • Visual composition and physical storytelling techniques.
  • Emotion and atmosphere conveyed beyond text.

Target Audience:
Actors, performers, educators, and visual artists seeking expanded expressive tools.

3.Dramatic Play & Creative Improvisation Workshop

Concept:
To build collective scenes integrating voice, movement, and plastic elements—equal partners to text in service of communication.

Structure:

  • Physical experimentation to uncover character behavior through gestures.
  • Archetypal exploration via movement, bypassing psychological traits.
  • Fosters synergy between improvisation, physicality, and non-verbal communication.

Objectives: This process creates complicity between forms of improvisation, gestures and non-verbal communication. It promotes spontaneity, collaboration on stage and the ability to adapt – skills that are valuable both in the performing arts and in professional and social life.

  • Techniques for solo/group improvisation.
  • Active listening and real-time response skills.
  • Tools for effective visual and audio narratives.

Target Audience:
Mixed groups (beginners to professionals), educators, and creatives.
